Refuse collectors in Barrow have voted to strike next month over pay.
Members of the GMB union have voted for industrial action and will stage six walkouts.
The union said the strikes will affect up to 33,000 homes
More than three quarters of the refuse collectors working for FCC Environment voted unanimously to walk out, the union added.
The strikes will take place on six days from March 9 to March 11 and March 16 to March 18.
Michael Hall, GMB organiser, said: “Barrow refuse collectors are angry; despite inflation running sky high bosses won’t even give them a three per cent pay rise so they can make ends meet.
“Thanks to their penny pinching, the people of Barrow face the massive disruption of a bin strike.
“It’s not too late – GMB urges management to get round the table and offer these keyworkers the pay rise they deserve, before industrial action takes place.”
Ann Thomson, leader of Barrow Borough Council, said: “Refuse and recycling collections in the borough are carried out by an external contractor.
“We are aware of the ongoing situation with the ballot in favour of strike action and we are waiting for further information and update from the contractor.”
