
The Whitehaven Cup took precedence in the Cumbria County League fixture schedule this weekend.
The tie between Whitehaven Amateurs Reserves and Wigton Harriers was brought forward to Thursday evening to prevent a clash with the Amateurs’ home first team fixture on the Saturday.
It was Wigton who triumphed 4-1 and into the draw for the next round. Aaron Mossop and Ian Johnston (2) on the scoresheet for Wigton, and an unfortunate own goal made up the total. Ben Powell scored for the Amateurs.
Northbank took on near neighbours UniSun Athletic and the Premier Division side eased to a 6-2 victory. Bobby Dixon helped himself to a hat trick, with Jack Little, Nathan Cox and Ellis Dickinson adding the others.
Liam Jackson and Kian Maker replied for the Division One Championship hopefuls.
There was an interesting tie at St Mungo’s Park when Division One Whitehaven Miners took on Premier Division leaders Aspatria.
Darryl Creighton, Jack Winter and Lewis Little hit the goals for the home side in a 3-1 victory with the Miners reply coming from Jamie Thursby.
There was an all-Premier Division clash when Workington Athletic travelled to meet Cockermouth.
Despite a Brett Smith strike for the home side, it was Athletic who took the honours with a welcome return to form. Goals from Gareth Brunton (2), Ryan Connelly (2) and Greg Quayle ensured their path into the next round.
In an all Division One clash Mirehouse entertained Silloth and finished comfortable 7-1 winners.
The Mirehouse goals were contributed by Alan Sim (2), Cyran Corlett (2), Brendon O’Fee, Aiden Smith and Nathan Dryden. It was club stalwart Liam Wilson, who provided some comfort on the journey back home, with Silloth’s reply.
The tie at the Falcon Ground, between First Division Windscale Reserves and Premier Division Gosforth, not unexpectedly went the way of the visitors.
Playing against the wind in the first period it was Gosforth who went into the break with a 2-0 lead. This was enhanced in the second half when they added a further five goals to progress 7-0 against the young Atoms team.
Sam Tallentire (2), Rhys Singleton (2) Jack Denwood, Joe Dorgan and Robert Carr scored the goals.
