
Kendal powered to a 64-14 home win over Bowdon to record their biggest win for five years.
It completed back-to-back fixtures with the Manchester side and was much more comprehensive than the previous work when they were made to work hard for a 28-11 victory.
It was a special day for Liam Hayton who made a rare appearance in the front row, in recording his 399th appearance for the club. The next one will certainly be marked in appropriate fashion.
Referee Ricky Handa is a strict disciplinarian and a top official in the making and after only six minutes he produced his first yellow card to caution the Bowdon fly half for a deliberate knock-on.
Two minutes later Kendal scored their first try when Dan Shorrock kicked through and profited from his follow-up when the Bowdon defenders made a hash of tidying up. Glen Weightman converted.
Five minutes later number eight Steven Nelson picked up and showed his pace to storm through the Bowdon defence to score the second try, converted by Weightman.
Bowdon’s problems increased on 25 minutes when their fly-half was shown a second yellow and they were reduced permanently to 14 men.
Two minutes later Kendal scored a third try when a break from Nelson was capitalised on by Dane Blenkharn who had supported well. Weightman again converted.
It wasn’t long before the bonus point try arrived and stemmed from a break by Danny Barker. Ben Dixon and Joe Fiddler played their part before Weightman strolled over but was unable to convert.
A lead off 33-0 was established when Shorrock crossed for his second and Weightman converted but Bowdon at least showed spirit right at the end to claim a converted try.
It took only six minutes of the second half for Kendal to be back in business when the Bowdon scrum-half tidied up well from a kick through but then threw out a pass which was intercepted by Dixon and he scored easily. Weightman converted.
Reece Tomlinson was shown a yellow card for querying a refereeing decision; James Gough, playing his first game since November was also binned after trading punches with an opponent, who was also yellow carded.
Kendal continued to rack up the tries with Fiddler (2), replacement Chris Park and Nelson scoring and Park adding conversions.
Again to their credit Bowdon kept at it and scored a second converted try in the dying minutes.
