The National Conference League starts with the top fixture being staged in the county.
Wath Brow Hornets should have been travelling to Castleford to take on Lock Lane but the game has been switched to West Cumbria.
There has been a fire in the Lock Lane dressing rooms and they weren’t in a position just yet to stage a home game.
Lock Lane have already been in action, famously beating League One side Oldham, who last season were playing their rugby in the Championship.
The Castleford amateurs stunned their hosts by winning 22-12 and then put up an excellent performance at Rochdale in the next round before going under 28-12.
Wath Brow, Cumbria’s leading amateur club, will prove a test and intend to go one better than last year when they lost to Thatto Heath in the Grand Final after the Conference competition had been run earlier on a regional basis.
Both Cumbria’s Premier Division sides have home fixtures to start the season with Egremont entertaining another of the sides who have been involved in Challenge Cup action – Hunslet Club Parkside.
The Leeds amateurs won 28-6 at London Skolars and then last week gave a good account of themselves before losing 40-20 at home to Sheffield.
Kells, with former coach Peter Smith back in charge, should have travelled to Featherstone Lions in Division One but the game has been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.
In Division Two Barrow Island start with a trip to Crosfields in Warrington who have been putting extra effort into their sponsorship deals during the winter.
Ahead of the visit from the south Cumbrians, Crosfields have announced that almost all of the open age squad have now been sponsored to the tune of £250 each.
Three of the county sides are in Division Three with newcomers Seaton starting st home to Eastmoor Dragons from Wakefield.
Hensingham, with Whitehaven legend Jessie Joe Parker in charge, travel to Bentley while Millom are also in Yorkshire at Batley Boys.
