
Station Road C put one foot in the APH Travel final as they took control of their semi-final match against Harrington Legion.
With the teams 8th and 9th in the JJ’s Workington Pool league a tight game was expected but when Steve Gibbon won his frame Station Road found themselves 3-0 ahead.
In a race to 10 frames over two legs the Legion’s Mark Morley helped reduce the deficit to 4-2 but Station Road again extended their lead as Charlie Cairns and Mark Little made it 6-2.
The Legion’s John Burns and Sandy Smith kept the team’s hopes alive as they secured the final frame and the first leg ended with Station Rd enjoying a 6-3 advantage.
In the other semi-final both JJ’s teams faced off with JJ’s B hoping to keep their league and cup aspirations alive.
A close start saw JJ’s A’s Jono Edge level the tie at 2-2 but from then the B team upped their game as Michael Craig started a five-frame winning streak which was assisted by league doubles winners Paul Vickers and Kevin Kirkham as JJ’s B took a 7-2 first leg lead.
In the quarter final of the APH Travel knockout plate, Station Rd D and Senhouse St faced off in a tight affair.
Senhouse’s John Teasdale’s break clearance put them 2-0 ahead which was improved on as Colin Robertson set himself up with a simple black thanks to a sublime double, extending their lead to 4-1.
Station Road knuckled down and fought back taking three of the last four frames as Dave Edwards and Gareth Pattinson kept them in the game winning the last doubles frame as Senhouse took a 5-4 lead into the second leg.
Miners, from the B league, took on A league Vets and it was the Vets Tut Irving who gave them a 3-1 lead.
The Miners fought back to 3-3 but the Vets surged ahead 5-3 before the Miners’ Dave Chisnall and Paul Skipsey, along with the handicap advantage, made it 5-5 and all to play for.
In other results, in-form Karl Newton secured both his frames on the evening as Packhorse A ran out 8-4 winners over Lifeboat B.
The Grapes also dominated their match against Station Road B as Mark Cowen and Mal Wigham capped off an 8-1 victory.
