The new Midweek Members Club for West Cumbrian fanciers launched on Wednesday with a very successful first race from Haverigg.
Peter Bewsher of Egremont, one of the men behind the venture, said: “It went very well with 100% returns and that’s what we are aiming for.
“In this club every member gets to have a say. It’s all about communication and change which is what I believe needs to happen to keep our sport alive.
“The transporter we bought off Ayrshire Federation and holds up to 1,400 birds and for our first race we had 470 on.
“We have eight more races planned – two from Flookburgh, one Garstang, two Charnock Richard and three from Lymm.”
The first result sheet was dominated by Jason Dempsey of Maryport, furthest flying member on the day and taking 27 of the first 30 positions.

Jason’s winner was a red cock bred off his good chequer pied hen which had two firsts and multiple tickets. She was paired to a son of his 16-year-old red cock which won five races.
They also bred a mealy hen to win Cannock young birds when it was 7th Amal.
