An auction to raise cash for Cumbria’s children’s hospice will be held in Cumwhitton next month.

Organised by villagers Ed and Liz Brown, the event promises hundreds of lots of all kinds.

The couple established a Clear Out Your Sheds Charity Auction when they lived in Gloucestershire and now, 40 years on, are launching the event in Cumbria.

Liz, of Town Head House, said: “We are so excited to be involved in resurrecting this event in Cumwhitton.

“Having had a child, and just recently a grandchild come through cancer treatment we are keen to do something to support local children and their families, so all the proceeds from the Auction will be going to Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice and our local community park.”

Retired H&H auctioneer, Ed added: “We are getting a terrific response with a huge number of items already delivered or promised and many, many more expected on the days before the sale.

“I reckon we’ll end up with at least 200 or 300 lots of enormous variety which promise to be of real interest to prospective purchasers.”

They have gathered a team to form an organising committee for the event, which will be held on April 2.

The team includes David and Jenny Robley an Raymond and Sheelagh Potter.

Jenny, of Town Foot Farm, added “The aim is to make it a real event, so there will be hot and cold refreshments being served all day, viewing on the morning of the sale and, all being well, a great atmosphere in which to enjoy and support two very worthwhile causes.

“And everything will be undercover in one of our barns including catering, office, sale lots and the auction itself.

“We are especially gratefully to Harrison and Hetherington of Rosehill for their support by providing top, professional auctioneers, clerks and much more. They will be running the office, enabling card, cash and cheque payments on the day too.”

Ed added: “Of particular interest to sellers is that they can either donate the items or sell them subject to commission, and whereas we are encouraging early notification of items in order to promote the event to buyers, we will be accepting lots up to 7pm on the night before the sale. For buyers I can promise there will be a huge range and variety of interesting and excellent lots to suit all tastes.”

The sale is at Cumwhitton Village Hall on Saturday, April 2 at 1pm with delivery of items for sale the day before, Friday April 1, between 2pm and 7pm and on the Satuday morning before 10am.

Full details for sellers and buyers can also be found on the dedicated Facebook page Cumwhitton Clear Out Your Sheds Charity Auction.
