Glenn Riley, Whitehaven’s 30-year-old prop forward, has been stood down by the club.
Riley has off-the-field issues and won’t be selected while he waits for the decisions of the magistrates court.
He had pleaded guilty earlier this week at Workington Magistrates Court to driving with alcohol level above the limit, using a vehicle without insurance and taking a vehicle without consent.
Riley, a product of the Wath Brow Hornets club, had also been due to be sentenced for a separate offence of failing to provide a specimen for analysis on February 28 in Heysham, Lancashire.
The case has been adjourned until April 4.
Having announced he was being stood down, a Whitehaven statement said: “As a club, we will always try and do what is right for the player and the club, and we believe that this measure is the correct one at this time.”
Riley, who had shone with Wath Brow, joined Warrington Wolves in 2012 and went on to play 18 Super League games, and also had loan spells across three seasons with Seaton Lions.
He joined London Broncos in 2015 and played 10 times before returning home and spending 2016 and 2017 with Whitehaven.
After 52 games for his hometown club he joined Barrow where another two seasons saw him play 23 times for the south Cumbrians.
He returned to Whitehaven in 2020 when the season was cut short by COVID.
