Families, friends and carers of children who have died are invited to attend a special remembrance service at the only children’s hospice in Cumbria and help their memories live on.
The Forget Me Not Remembrance Day service will take place at Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice in Durdar Road, Carlisle, on Saturday, March 26, between 11am and noon.
The service is not just for those families who’ve been supported directly by the charity but is open to anyone who wishes to come along and remember a child even if they’ve had no prior connection to Jigsaw.
During the event there will be music from Israel Kamakawiwo’ole played, readings of two poems and refreshments. Families who attend will also be given their own forget-me-not plant to take away, just in time to bloom at home, which have been grown at the hospice by volunteers.
Wendy Ashton, family support team lead at the hospice, said: “This service will be a chance for people to take a moment, reflect and remember those lives that have been lost but whose memories are still extra special to the loved ones they left behind.
“At Jigsaw we work hard to support families going through the toughest of times and we know how important it is to help people remember the good memories, special moments and love children can bring and we hope this service will help those who come along.”
A service like this has not been held at the hospice for several years, with the last one being around 10 years ago.
The service will be held outside so anyone attending is asked to wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
Jigsaw provides day-to-day care, support and activities to children and young people living with a life limiting illness and looks after people from all corners of Cumbria. Jigsaw’s care is provided in a home from home setting and each young person’s care is personalised towards their own needs.
