
Three Premier Division games launched the new Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL and were all won by the likely title challengers.
Reigning champions Ellenborough, previous winners Distington and the ever consistent Wath Brow A started with comfortable victories.
Ellenborough opened with a potentially tough Maryport derby against a fired-up Glasson Rangers but stormed away in the second-half to win 44-8.
It had been tight in the opening 40 minutes, as expected, with Elbra holding a 14-0 lead at the break before wearing down the opposition in the second-half.
One or two players have swapped clubs and it was ex-Glasson Keenan Winter who crossed twice for Elbra and was joined on the score-sheet by Brett Stevenson, Kevin Hoban, Andrew Ostle, Matthew Bell Jonty Hill and Ryan Wilson.
Winter kicked four goals for a 16-point haul agai9nst his former club with Jordan Ostle landing two.
Kieran Hughes and Joe Kirkup scored unconverted tries for Glasson.
Distington were particularly impressive in seeing-off Aspatria 68-0 – a symmetrical performance with 34 points in each half.
They scored 12 tries with Scott George converting ten of them.
Crossing for the Distington tries were Scott Rooke (2), Aiden Worthington (2), Liam McNicholas (2), Jack Speight (2), Troy Armstrong, Phil Lister, Kieran Worthington and Jack Penrice.
Lowca put up a gutsy display against Wath Brow A before going down 34-14 after the Hornets had gone in at the break with a 16-4 advantage.
Emerson Allen, Matthew Farrer and Ellis Crone scored the Lowca tries with one conversion from Keith Campbell.
The Wath Brow try scorers were Morgan McCourt (2), Luke Davidson (2), Fletcher Creasey, David Bradley and Paul Niua. Creasey and Jason Connery each kicked two conversions.
Fixtures for this Saturday are again all in the Premier Division – Wath Brow A v Ellenborough; Distington v Glasson; Maryport v Lowca.
Division One games don’t start until after the clocks alter at the end of the month as they are all going to be played on a Friday night.
