Two of the best amateur rugby league games involving Cumbrian teams are outside the county this weekend.
The National Conference is the stage for two potential crackers in Thatto Heath v Wath Brow and East Leeds v Seaton Rangers.
But the Holmen Iggesund Cumberland League can also offer its own version of match of the day – the Premier Division clash between Wath Brow A and Ellenborough Rangers.
The 2021 season was disjointed because of the pandemic and not all the clubs completed their fixtures.
In the end, Ellenborough were awarded the title but with Wath Brow feeling their A team should have had a shout.
Hopefully there will be no more reasons for COVID-affected postponements and we can get through to the end of the season with all the clubs having finished all their games.
No doubt, though, there will be a little extra incentive for both sides shaping up at Wath Brow to go out and prove a point.
Both go into it on the back of fairly straightforward victories on the opening day. Elbra beat Glasson Rangers 44-8 in their Maryport derby while Wath Brow were 34-14 winners at Lowca.
Previous champions Distington were certainly impressive in their first game, demolishing Aspatria 68-0 and tomorrow have their first home game against Glasson Rangers.
The third Premier Division game features Maryport’s seasonal League bow at home to Lowca.
There is still a shortage of referees which is why the Division One fixtures have been held back until the clocks go forward and will be staged on Friday nights.
