New Barrow boss Phil Brown is in no doubt about the job he faces – as he’s planning on overseeing nine cup finals.
He says: “I’m here because the team hasn’t won enough football matches this season. That has to change.
“I was on the training ground with the team yesterday and there are clearly some talented players.
“As a new manager I know they would be trying to impress, but it isn’t about impressing during the week. It’s on match days they have to do that.
“Over the years I’ve seen plenty of Tuesday morning footballers who don’t carry it over the white line on a Saturday.
“I saw the team play at Rochdale and get a point but it was one they could have won or could have lost, and that’s been the story of the season.
“As far as I’m concerned it’s refreshing to get back into management but we need help from the supporters to make our home ground a fortress.
“All our matches are against teams higher in the league, which tells its own story, but if we can get the backing of the fans at home it’s going to be a massive help towards picking up maximum points here.”
Brown is happy to be working alongside Neil McDonald, who was involved with the team last season when they retained their League Two status at the first attempt.
“Macca knows how the club works and I want to find out quickly myself. I don’t want to just manage a team, I want to manage a club which can qualify to stay in League Two this season and develop and consolidate from there,” said Brown.
“I’m looking forward to the first game at Leyton Orient on Saturday even though I know it will be tough.”
Brown takes over a Barrow side fourth bottom, level on games with Stevenage but three points ahead.
They lead Oldham, in the final relegation place, by six points but the Latics do have a game in hand which they play tonight at home to Sutton Utd.
