A Cumbrian mineral water company is celebrating its 30th birthday.

Aqua Pura has been drawn from one of the largest aquifers in Europe, right in the heart of Cumbria in the Eden Valley, and has seen year-on-year growth of 35 per cent in volume, making it the fastest-growing of the major British natural mineral water brands.

Based in Armathwaite, the Aqua Pura team said it was proud to have loyal employees that have been with the company since it opened its doors, and is using its anniversary to spotlight those who have helped make the brand what it is today.

Craig Notman, logistics manager and Aqua Pura employee since 1991, said: “I started my job at Aqua Pura when I was just 17 years old.

“Since then, I have had six promotions and have gained a lot of confidence both professionally and personally.

“I have built many strong relationships, made friends for life and have plenty of brilliant memories. It’s also been incredible to really experience the evolution of the business right from the outset!

“When I started working at Aqua Pura 30 years ago, there were only 10 people on site working the day shift. We now have a workforce in excess of 130.”

The business steadily grew through the 1990s and during this time Aqua Pura sponsored the London Marathon.

In 2004, the business was sold to Princes, which led to huge investment, including a new 20,000 bottle per hour production line and automation of the pallet process.

At this time there were 150 people working for the business in Cumbria. In 2011, a 14,000 pallet space warehouse was built on site, streamlining production from one central location.

“Looking back, it has been truly remarkable to be part of Aqua Pura’s growth over the past 30 years. I am truly grateful to have been part of this journey and to have had such a supportive employer throughout my career,” Craig added.

Kelly Hall, of Aqua Pura, added: “We couldn’t be prouder of the progress we have made over the past three decades and thank Craig for his incredible 30 years of service. Growing from just 10 people to where we are now is a huge achievement, and we credit that to our amazing team for such great success.

“Cumbria has been a great home to us and our local employees are the reason we are where we are today – one of the UK’s leading mineral water brands, sourced from right here in the heart of the Lake District.”
