Industrial action by refuse collectors in Barrow has been called off.
Members of the GMB union had walked out for two days earlier this month and planned to strike yesterday and today and April 6 to April .
But the union has announced that the strike action had been halted.
The industrial action was a result of “ a fight for a living wage”, the GMB said, and more than three-quarters of the FCC Environment workforce voted to strike.
An FCC Environment spokesman said: “The company has made it clear that its fair offer (for April 2021 negotiations) of 2.2 per cent is final and this has been communicated clearly to the GMB to take back to its members. Indeed, lower offers have been accepted by the GMB elsewhere, as have other negotiations across other areas of FCC.
“FCC Environment once again makes it clear that this offer is for 2021 and until this is resolved negotiations for the 2022 pay award cannot begin.”
