Port Vale fans, who will be travelling to Barrow tomorrow, have been warned over the use of flares at games.
Two weeks ago, when Vale played at Bradford City, a flare was thrown after the Potteries side scored a goal.
As a direct result of that, someone else in the crowd had to receive first aid for a burnt arm.
Vale, chasing an automatic promotion place, will be well supported in south Cumbria tomorrow and have been urged not to take flares to the game.
Although that was a rare incident involving Vale supporters the official supporters club chairman Mark Porter is stressing that they can’t become a trend.
Porter is reported to have told the latest supporters club meeting: “We went away to Bradford and, when we scored, there was a flare that went off.
“They might be great to look at but when that flare was thrown it did burn somebody’s arm at the front of the stand. We saw the first aid people down there, they were actually treating somebody.
“Please think about that. If you are thinking of taking a flare – don’t. The last thing we want is for somebody to get hurt.”
Fans from all clubs should note that taking flares into a ground is an offence and supporters could also get a lifetime ban from the ground.
Tomorrow’s Barrow v Port Vale game is vital for both as they contest issues at both ends of the table.
