Plans to open a new wine bar in Silloth have been revealed.

Plans to open a new wine bar in Silloth, creating four jobs, have been revealed.

Sui Generis would open in premises formerly run as a sweet shop on Criffel Street.

An application has been submitted to Allerdale council to change the use of the building.

Owners plan to include a seating area on the street outside and the change of use application includes permission to serve food in the bar. It would create two full-time jobs and two part-time roles.

Agent Phoenix Architects said: “Use as a bar with pavement sitting out areas appears entirely within the existing character of the main frontage and a valuable addition bringing much needed vitality to the town’s tourism offer.”

Criffel Street fronts on to the Green, play space and beach in the town.

There will be minimal changes to the appearance of the shop front. Phoenix Architects said: “The frontage is rendered and attractively detailed in a classical revival style which will not be altered.

Allerdale council has estimated that the earliest date it will make a decision on the application is May 12.
