A Whitehaven-based specialist commissioning firm has been recognised for its commitment to social impact.

MissionCX beat strong competition with hundreds of entries shortlisted for ‘Best Social Impact’ at the 2022 North-West Family Business Awards.

The Best Social Impact Award recognises purpose-driven family businesses which have demonstrated real compassion for their community and evidenced the role they have played in delivering social impact.

Working predominately in the nuclear sector, MissionCX provides a range of services that comprises commissioning delivery management and procedures; engagement and deployment of commissioning resources; training, mentoring and competency assessment of personnel and digital solutions.

Managing director, Ben Slater said: “We are honoured to have been shortlisted in this special category. We are proud members of The Family Business Network, a supportive community that seeks to celebrate family businesses, large and small, across all sectors and industries, encouraging collaboration, learning and development.

“MissionCX are committed to leaving a lasting, positive legacy for our local community, through our one per cent pledge initiative, which commits one per cent of our profits, equity, time, and product to philanthropic endeavours. Our Acorn fund will be distributed to those in our community that need it most.

“We intend to grow our acorn into an oak tree, maximising our social impact. Being a finalist means so much to us, it’s a real reflection of our commitment to social value, fairness and people, both in our company and throughout the wider community.”

Co-Founder and Director of the Family Business Network, Sue Howorth, said: “We were inundated with some incredible entries, and we have been burning the midnight oil to get through them as they came in right up to the wire. The judges had extremely difficult decisions to make, so the finalists should be extremely proud of themselves!”

The Chair of Judges, Jacqui Jackson, added: “The number and quality of applications from across the North West have been outstanding; the businesses are clearly proud to be family businesses and the detail in many of the entries has demonstrated that they are very progressive and innovative.”

The awards ceremony will be held at The Rum Warehouse, Titanic Hotel, Liverpool with host, food writer, and presenter Nigel Barden, and will take place on May 13.
