The West Coast Thermal doubles competition in the Workington Pool League produced an exciting conclusion.
The remaining four teams left in a keenly-fought competition battled it out to be crowned champions.
In the quarter-final, Tom Thompson and Wayne King found themselves up against it in the first frame as John Burns and Graham Renney took the tactical initiative.
After a King foul Burns cleared the table to put his pair 1-0 up.
In the second frame, Thompson ran out of position when trying to clear the table and conceded the advantage to which Renney and Burns jumped on to progress 2-0.
In the first semi-final, Dan Hancox and Kevin Forster took on Grant Porter and Sarah Messenger in an attacking display of pool.
Hancox, in particular, looked in top form as he attacked early in the frame and made a great clearance for a 1-0 lead.
Porter responded with a high tariff clearance of his own showing great positional play.
In the decider, a foul from Porter and Messenger gave Hancox another chance for a clearance which he delivered to progress to the final on a 2-1 scoreline.
In the other semi-final, Burns and Renney took on Karl Newton and Lewis Tilley in a tight affair.
Tilley and Newton’s positional play saw them struggle at the crucial time gifting Burns and Renney the opportunities which they took to win 2-0.
The final saw Hancox and Forster up against Burns and Renney and it was the latter pair who got off to a great start by taking a 2-0 lead in a race to three frame wins.
Burns and Renney looked as if they were going to secure the crucial third until Hancox was gifted the opportunity which he took to half the deficit.
In the fourth frame, a foul from Renney gave Forster the advantage.
What looked like a well-controlled clearance by Forster saw him overshoot a double attempt and when trying to regain position he went in off from his last ball to give Burns a foul and two shots.
Burns kept his composure to clear the table and give himself and Renney their maiden doubles title on a 3-1 scoreline.
