Keswick face two tasty clashes this weekend in which they can lay out their credentials for the season which is starting to unfold.
They stage the Cumbria League’s match of the day in the Premier Division when they host champions Furness on Saturday, and then travel to Cockermouth on Sunday in the Higson Cup.
After the setback of a defeat at Carlisle in the league, Keswick bounced back last week with a six-wicket win over resurgent Millom.
Furness had lost previously to Millom in a rain-affected game but they were comfortable winners against Whitehaven last Saturday.
The match at Cockermouth is always a keen contest with players on both sides who have previously played for the opposition. Sunday will be no different.
In the league on Saturday, Cockermouth will make the trip to the south of the county to take on a Haverigg side one of three still to record a Premier Division win.
Flying high at the top Carlisle have a six-point lead from the fact that they are the only side who have won all their three matches.
Dalton were swept aside last Saturday as the city side recorded the easiest of wins by 203 runs. Professional Michael Slack continued his good form with another century while new arrival Nico Watt took 5-5.
It should be a bit harder on Saturday against Cleator whose new professional Kasun Madushanka made an eye-catching home debut by taking 5-16 against Haverigg – all of them clean bowled.
Carlisle, in fact, will host Haverigg on Sunday in the Higson Cup and on the evidence of the season so far will expect to go through to the quarter-finals
Whitehaven are already through to the last eight after they beat Cleator, while the Egremont v Furness tie will be played next Sunday, May 22.
In the league, though, Whitehaven are still to record a win and on Saturday entertain a Wigton side cock-a-hoop after an exciting two-wicket win at Workington last week in a low-scoring game.
Dalton are also winless at the foot of the table and they have a home fixture against Workington, who were disappointed to lose their unbeaten record against Wigton.
So too are Millom, after their defeat against Keswick, and they entertain Egremont who do have a derby win over Whitehaven to their name.
