Ice cream bar opens in Wigton with a different vibe

Vibes counter

An ice cream bar has opened in Wigton – and can even offer your four legged friend a treat.

Katie Wright has opened Vibes in the town’s High Street after she came up with the idea in March last year.

Katie, 48, previously owned a cleaning business for 18 years, but two years working for an ice cream firm in Whitby sparked the idea for the new business in Wigton.

She said: “I’ve been planning the shop since March 2021, realising Wigton didn’t have one.

“Due to COVID I had to put my plans on hold but it is all I thought about for the last year.”

Vibes in Wigton welcomes dogs

Katie makes vegan fresh fruit sorbets fresh every morning and a vegan ice cream – plus there is ice cream available that is suitable for dogs, who Katie says are very welcome in Vibes.

She and her husband Simon, 51, who works in the shop at weekends, wanted to make Vibes stand out.

Katie said: “We spent four weeks working on the shop and coming up with various ideas to make the shop different.

“Vibes has seating, LED lighting, colour changing lights, neon signs, vintage sundae dishes along with happy friendly faces and good conversation!”
