Workington Town went down 58-6 at Leigh in the Betfred Championship ahead of a welcome break next weekend.
They have more important matches coming up than this one, although coach Chris Thorman was looking for a more enthusiastic and energetic display than they showed in the first half at Barrow last week.
Leigh, vying with Featherstone for top spot, scored 13 tries so the margin of victory could have been more as only three of them went unconverted.
Four of the Leigh tries were scored by Blake Ferguson, an outstanding but controversial Australian player who was making his Centurions debut after signing for the club last month.
He had scored his hat-trick in the first half when Leigh led 30-6 at the break after a dominant display in which they scored seven tries but could only convert one through Krisnan Inu.
Town had stuck at it gamely and got their reward on 38 minutes after a couple of strong sets and Caine Barnes crashed over with Oscar Thomas adding the extras.
Apart from more knocks and bruises than normal there was no real damage to Town as two of their struggling rivals, London Broncos and Dewsbury also lost.
Matches with those and Whitehaven are likely to decide who stays up this season and Town are now preparing to welcome the Broncos to Derwent Park on Thursday, June 2.
