Workington Town’s promising half-back Ciaran Walker has picked up a four match ban from the Rugby League’s disciplinary tribunal.
A League Review Panel had decided that Walker should be charged with a Grade D offence for a late hit on a passer during the club’s last Championship game at Leigh.
Walker, a former Seaton and Newcastle Thunder Academy player, is in his debut season for Town and has impressed in his appearances so far.
The charge comes under Law 15.1 (i) which covers dangerous contact – a defending player makes contact with an opponent after the ball has been released by an opponent in a vulnerable position which causes flexion to the head, neck or spinal column on an attacking player, which poses an unacceptable risk of injury to that player.
Walker could have been handed a three to five match ban and picked-up the middle option, four games.
On-loan Glen Riley escaped a charge when the RL Review Panel considered a case of a dangerous contact in the same game with Leigh.
Riley has joined Town on a month’s loan from Whitehaven with Perry Singleton going in the opposite direction for a month.
