Three of last night’s Cumberland Cup quarter finals were pretty one-sided and the best contested tie was at Seaton.
The home club’s A team took on Kells A and at half-time there were just six points in it after Steven Newton went in for a Kells try, converted by Ross Gainford.
Brett Symes scored a try for Seaton A to keep them in touch but Kells scored further tries by Ryan Starkie and Clarke Chambers, both converted by Gainford to win 18-4.
Seaton A’s man of the match was Liam Williamson with Lewis Wilson picking-up the award for Kells A.
Glasson Rangers put up a ritty show against all conquering Distington and it was only 8-0 at half-time.
In the end the Holmen Iggesund Cumberland League leaders pulled away to book their passage into the semi-finals with a 32-0 win.
Nicky Cook, Jack Speight and Jack Worthington scored a couple of tries each and Scott George popped over four conversions.
Lowca versus Wath Brow A was also close at half-time with the Hornets’ second string edging it 12-8.
But they managed to pull away in the second half and finished comfortable winners 35-14.
Emerson Allen was man of the match for Lowca who scored tries through Sean Gill (2) and Mitchell Todd with one conversion by Keith Campbell.
The Wath Brow tries came from Morgan Ackerley (2), Jenson Olstrum (2), Luke Davison and Gregg Dawson. Olstrum landed five conversions and a field goal. Daley Stables was their man of the match.
The other tie proved to be something of a mis-match as Ellenborough Rangers overwhelmed Aspatria Hornets 84-4.
The reigning Cumberland League champions ran in 16 tries, of which 10 were converted.
Seven players crossed twice – Zac Olstrum, back with his former amateur club after a stint with Workington Town; Owen Hoyles, Jordan Ostle, Andrew Ostle, Brett Stevenson, Shane Ackerley and Kevin Hoban. The try tally was completed by John Todd and Matthew Bell.
Hoyles (9) and Stevenson (1) kicked the goals with Andrew Ostle picking-up man of the match.
Aspatria, who had trailed 46-0 at half-time, earned credit for perseverance and Rocco Okesene scored an unconverted try for them. Richard Stamper was their man of the match.
