A public exhibition where visitors will be able to learn more about four multi-million pound projects planned for Millom and Haverigg will be held on Wednesday.

Residents of the town are invited to join members of the project teams and Town Deal Board at The Guide Hall in St George’s Road, Millom, from 3pm to 7pm.

A series of displays will bring to life four ambitious schemes that will transform the town’s health, economy and reputation as a destination town.

Working with Copeland Borough Council, the Millom Town Deal Board secured an offer of £20.6 million from the Government’s £3.6 billion Towns Fund initiative last summer.

Four projects have now reached the business case assurance stage, meaning plans have been submitted for internal assessment ahead of final submission to the government later this year.

Robert Morris-Eyton, chair of the Millom Town Deal board, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming members of the public to our exhibition, where they will have access to the latest information and images linked to each project.

“The Millom Town Deal represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to access funding on a scale that will bring about real and tangible change.

“Our four exciting and interconnected projects touch on almost every aspect of life in the town and through a great deal of hard work on the part of the Town Deal Board and Copeland Borough Council, we find ourselves a step closer to unlocking the government funds required to make them a reality.”

Four projects form a part of the Millom Town Deal.

The Iron Line:  A proposal to transform the unique coastal lagoon into an inspiring visitor attraction which fuses ecology, heritage and art within an inclusive recreational space around the sea wall.

Reactivating Heritage Buildings: A proposal to enhance Millom Town Centre by bringing derelict, vacant and underused heritage buildings back into active use to increase vitality and footfall. The project includes the creation of a Heritage and Arts Centre.

Activating community health: The creation of a new, multi-purpose community and leisure hub to provide a range of facilities including a swimming pool and 3G pitch. The hub will be located on land at Millom School.

Connected Millom and Haverigg: Improving Millom’s transport network to create a gateway to the town at the railway station, while transforming cycling and walking infrastructure in both Millom and Haverigg.
