A Cumbria police patrol car smashed through a Workington home’s garden wall and ended up on its roof.

It happened on the corner of Mossbay Road near the Army Reserve Centre – formerly the TA Centre – at around 9.30pm yesterday, July 9.

A police spokesman said: “The police car, which was travelling to an emergency incident, was in collision with a Toyota Yaris car before the police car collided with a garden wall, ending up on its roof.

“The two officers travelling in the patrol car suffered minor injuries. Nobody else was injured in the incident.”

The road was closed while the incident is investigated and cars involved were recovered. People were asked to avoid the area.

A neighbour said: “I was watching TV and then all of a sudden there was a loud bang. It was unbelievable to see the car upside down like that. It was really lucky no one was seriously injured as there’s normally children playing in front gardens when the weather’s nice.”
