Grease is the word as outdoor cinema event plans tribute to Olivia Newton-John

An outdoor cinema event is set to show the smash-hit musical Grease as a tribute to Olivia Newton-John.

Alston Gala will present the sing-a-long event, which will take place on Sunday August 28.

Alston Gala Chair, Raymond Miller said: “When we screened The Greatest Showman last August, we had lots of people asking us to do it again. People really seemed to like the idea.

“We’ve chosen the bank holiday weekend, so as many people as possible can enjoy the evening. The film Grease was selected a number of months ago but now with the recent sad news of the death of Olivia Newton-John, we hope that it will also be a fitting tribute to her.

“Thanks go to Cumbria County Council which has helped to fund the event.”

Cars will be parked on a first-come-first-parked basis and refreshments will be available.

Entry starts at 7pm and the film will begin at 8.30pm. It will be shown on an eight metre by four metre screen on Tyne Willows playing field on Station Road, Alston.

All equipment is supplied by Sky Light Mobile Outdoor Cinema and the event is supported by Cumbria County Council.
