An architects and engineering practice is accelerating its ambitious growth plans in the North West with a new appointment.
Josh Allington has joined the 25-strong Building Design Northern as an architect and will be based in the practice’s North West office in Ulverston.
The chartered architect, originally from Barrow, has spent seven years working for a large firm in Birmingham and played a pivotal role in the design and delivery of Birmingham’s tallest residential building, the 42-tower for Moda Living, The Mercian, which opened last month.
The multi-disciplinary practice, which also has offices in both Sunderland, led the £1m restoration project of the listed Old Simpson Street School into its North East head office and luxury apartments in 2020, and is now seeking to establish a larger Ulverston base.
Josh said: “I am really excited to be joining at a time when the Ulverston office is seeing rapid growth. It is an ambitious company, with diverse clients and an ever-expanding project list. It’s great being back home.”
Director of architecture and head of Ulverston office, Joe Warner, said: “It is great to see the expansion of our business in Ulverston. We are committed to employing the best local talent. We are delighted to have Josh on board and believe his skills and experience will complement the team as our Ulverston base in the North West continues to grow.”
Josh’s hire is the start of a period of planned expansion in the Lake District, as BDN has plans to open a larger Ulverston office in 2023.
