Workington RNLI volunteers were called out at 12.15am to help in the search for a missing person.
The all-weather lifeboat was launched to help search teams from Whitehaven and Maryport Coastguard rescue teams to illuminate the area under the slagbanks at Harrington.
Nothing was found and the RNLI was stood down, returning to the station at 1.55am.
