Rail passengers are urged not to travel as more strikes are due to take place.
Strike action by members of Aslef, RMT and TSSA unions is scheduled to go ahead on Saturday.
Further action will be taken by Aslef members next Wednesday and RMT and TSSA unions on Saturday, October 8.
The strikes are expected to affect Network Rail and up to 14 operators, including Avanti West Coast, Northern and TransPennine Express.
Workers are striking over pay and conditions, with union bosses saying their members were being offered rises well below the rate of inflation.
Aslef said rail bosses had ‘forced their hand’ as industrial action was always a last resort for unions.
TransPennine Express said it would only be operating a handful of services and urged people to avoid travelling unless absolutely necessary.
A reduced train plan will also be in place on the days following each strike date, and trains will start later and finish earlier than normal.
Kathryn O’Brien, customer service and operations director at TransPennine Express, said: “We are strongly recommending customers avoid travel unless their journey is absolutely essential on October 1, 2, 5, 6 and 8 and 9 and seek alternative transport instead.”
Most of the train company’s managed stations will be closed on October 1 and 8 with no rail or replacement services available. Bikes will not be permitted on TPE services on October 1, 2, 5, 6, 8 and 9.
