Ellenborough Rangers won the EB Lamb Amateur Cup at Hensingham by beating Wath Brow A 20-12 in the final.
It had been anybody’s game at half-time when Elbra held an 8-6 lead but crucially they extended that advantage to 20-6 inside 16 minutes of the second half.
The Hornets did score the last try of the game thirteen minutes from time but they couldn’t get nearer.
The deadlock had been broken after 17 minutes when Matthew Bell scored an unconverted try for Ellenborough.
They doubled the lead with a second unconverted try, this one from Brett Stephenson on 28 minutes.
Wath Brow got themselves back into contention on 31 minutes when David Bradley went over and Jenson Olstrum added the conversion.
Two tries in the opening 15 minutes after the change-round gave Ellenborough a grip on the game.
First it was Niall Gray who went over on 46 minutes and Owen Hoyles added the conversion.
Then nine minutes later Keenan Winter went in for Elbra’s fourth try which Hoyles improved.
Wath Brow gave themselves a chance on 67 minutes when their man of the match Scott Goodwin scored a try which Olstrum converted.
But that was it and Ellenborough saw out the game to lift the trophy with their powerful prop Gary Tierney named man of the match.
