
Conor Fitzsimmons was the main recipient at Workington Town’s presentation night.
The hard-working forward, thought to be staying in the Championship with a rival club next season, won three awards.
Although Town had a dismal season in the Championship Fitzsimmons, a former Seaton amateur, added to his growing reputation with his consistent form.
He was the club’s Player of the Year; picked up the coveted Players’ Player of the Year and was also the Derwent Park Supporters Club Player of the Year.
Three other members of the squad picked up double awards.
Matty Henson, the first player to re-sign for next season, won theb Shaun Weaver Family player of the year and also picked up the trophy for the moment of the season.
That was in the very first game when he scored a last-minute try to win the Ike Southward Memorial Trophy against Whitehaven.
Marcus O’Brien won try of the season for his individual effort against London Broncos and was also the Workington Town Supporters Club player of the season in memory of George Petre.
Winger Alex Clegg was top try scorer for the 2022 season and also won the Players’ Young Player of the Year award.
There was a special Golden Boot and try scoring award to veteran Carl Forber on his achievement of scoring 2,500 points for the club.
Jordan Thomson won the trophy for the head coach’s most improved player while Evan Simons was the coaching group’s Player and Person of 2022.
The Traveller’s Rest Supporters Club chose Ethan Bickerdike as their player of the season.
There were also awards to people who have worked hard in the background supporting the Town club.
The Brian Ritson award for the most influential Townie in 2022 went to Scott Graham for all his fund-raising efforts.
Club Person of the Year was Wayne Scholey for all his efforts behind the scenes.
Chairman John Pleasants made a special award to Malcolm Hill Electrical for outstanding contributions to the Town club.
