Organisers of Egremont Crab Fair have set up a funfair after the main event was cancelled following the death of the Queen.
George Katona owns the funfair that makes an annual appearance at the Egremont event, agreed with the committee to set up his fair later in the month so youngsters can enjoy some of the usual festivities.
Callum Scott, Egremont Crab Fair chairman, said: “Because crab fair was cancelled and there was a lot of disappointment with the kids, George said he would put the fair up in the town later in the month. So he booked the car park with the council, paid a small fee and has set his fairground up for the weekend.”
Callum added that George makes a substantial donation to the crab fair’s funds from the money made from the fair.
The funfair is already in the town and is set to go ahead every evening from 6pm to 9.30pm until Saturday, when the fair will open earlier at 1pm and finish at 9.30pm.
Opening hours may change due to weather conditions and footfall.
The crab fair committee is also looking for new volunteers who are keen to get involved ahead of next year’s event and are encouraging interested people to get in touch.
