Cumbrian neighbours Penrith and Carlisle City could, not be separated in a Northern League derby of few chances.
It finished 0-0 at Frenchfield and that was the first blank score-line in City manager Jim Nichols’ time at the club.
That stat has been 128 games and nearly four years in the making!
Reflecting on that Nichols said: “It wasn’t a great game of football and I can’t recall either keeper having a save to make although Penrith did hit the bar.
“There was plenty of commitment from both sides as you would expect but performance wise it wasn’t good.
“But we have had two tough away games in four days and got two points. We’ve got 20 points from 13 games following promotion and we would have taken that before a ball was kicked.
“What we are finding is that clubs are all capable of beating anyone on their day so it’s a very competitive League and we are enjoying the challenge.”
City are at home on Saturday to Newcastle Benfield who suffered a poor result on Tuesday when they lost 4-1 at home to lowly Heaton Stannington.
Penrith manager Darren Edmondson was pleased with his side’s performance, particularly the intensity.
“I thought our fron three of JJ Taylor, Johnny Murray and Alfie Brunskill caused them a number of problems. They play a certain way and stick to the game plan. They are dangerous on the break and I thought we dealt with them well.
“We had a couple of knocks but hopefully we will have the same squad for Saturday at West Auckland who will be a tough, physical test,” said the Penrith boss.
The game with neighbours Carlisle City was the first time the clubs had met in a League game and attracted Penrith’s best crowd of the season.
Saturday’s opponents West Auckland had a good 4-0 home win over Thornaby on Tuesday.
