Barrow captain Niall Canavan has committed himself to a new two years with the club.
It will keep 31-year-old Leeds-born Canavan with the Bluebirds until 2024.
There is also an option at the end of the deal, which could see Canavan in Barrow colours for three more years.
Manager Pete Wild expressed his delighted at securing Canavan’s signature, acknowledging the skipper’s leadership and peformances on the pitch this season.
He said: “Niall is an impeccable leader and an integral part of this football club.
“He is a true role model on and off the field, and helps our younger players with their development. He’s the first of many we hope to tie down to secure the future of the team and build something special here at Barrow.”
But Wild wasn’t as happy with the home defeat against Mansfield yesterday when the Stags took the points with the only goal of the game.
He was particularly concerned that Barrow hadn’t been awarded a penalty deep in stoppage time which would have given them the chance of salvaging a point.
Wild admitted his side hadn’t produced the form it had shown early in the season and insisted they would get back to those standards.
“Some teams have started poorly but are now picking up. We set off really well and have hit a bit of a plateau.
“But we have a week without a fixture now and we will be working hard on the training field to get things sorted,” he said.
