Runcorn Linnets have been given a major boost ahead of their visit to Workington on Saturday.
Ryan Brooke, who left the club for Warrington Rylands in the summer, has returned and made a scoring debut at Newcastle Town last night.
The 32-year-old was an enormously popular player for the Linnets in his first spell and last season picked up three awards, including the coveted Players’ Player of the Year.
The experienced striker had already made 62 appearances for the Linnets, scoring 38 goals in all competitions.
The 39th goal came at Newcastle when the 2-0 win pushed them up to second in the NPL table just a point behind leaders Macclesfield.
Workington are now seventh but only three points behind the Linnets from the same number of games.
Brooke had his most prolific season last year with the Linnets, picking up the Pitching In NPL West Division’s Golden Boot award for his 25 league goals.
The readdition of Brooke will add firepower to Dave Wild’s side for their battle to improve on last year’s effort when they were beaten in the play-off final by Marine.
The Linnets recently won at Workington in the FA Trophy so Reds boss Danny Grainger knows what his side will be facing.
Workington have had a break after not playing on Saturday but have put in three good training sessions so far while three long-term injured players have all got nearer returns.
