A group of Cumbrian cadets and volunteers have been left overjoyed by two huge donations.
Whitehaven Sea Cadets were gifted thousands of pounds and a new boat within the space of a week, leaving the volunteers and cadets blown away by the generosity of the donors.
North Western Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority donated a new inshore patrol boat to the cadets to be used as a training vessel and safety boat after it had become surplus to the organisation. The cadets also received two cheques totalling £2300 from the Provincial Grant Masters initiative match funding.
Stuart McCourt, commanding officer at Whitehaven Sea Cadets said: “We have been absolutely blown away by the generosity of these donations. The new boat means that we can get even more young people out onto the water having fun and developing their boat handling skills.”
The cadets and volunteers were presented the cheques by David Bowen, the West Cumbria group chairman of Provincial Grand Lodge and Keith Straughton, charity stewart for Lewis Lodge.

Simon Ferguson, Unit Chair added: “The cheques from the two lodges mean the world to a small charity like ours and moves us ever closer to our long-term ambition of a permanent home. We can’t thank both organisations enough, we are so privileged to be part of such a an amazingly kind and generous community.”
