Division Two’s Flimby Social produced their second whitewash in as many games in the L&L Property Contractors Snooker League.
Their follow-up victory saw them defeat fellow second tier opponents Maryport Social, 5-0.
Relatively close frame wins for Richard Kirkham, Mike Walker and Sal Cakmak took care of the first three games but with Shane Evitts upping the ante in the fourth and Kevin Kirkham finishing in style in the last, Flimby sent a travelling Maryport side home with their tails between their legs.
Workington’s Golf Club A team demonstrated their fighting qualities as sheer grit and determination ensured the Division One outfit recorded a 3-2 home win over the equally tenacious Division Two outfit Station Road Club.
The battle of the Workington teams started as Tom Thompson took the first for Station Road, before Bryan Walker won frame two to level the score at 1-1.
Up next Mike Walker put Station Road into the lead again at 2-1 but back came the Golf Club A side to level up at 2-2 thanks to a 30 break from Mark Cowen.
In the decider Phil Sorfleet pulled-off some of his trademark slick potting and with his opponent powerless against the assault the Golf Club A cueist sealed the match victory.
Workington’s United Club made light work of Whitehaven’s Rack Shack as the Division One side beat their Division Two opponents 4-1 at home.
A victory for Peter McAvoy gave the Rack the perfect start but that was as good as it was to get for the Whitehaven outfit as Tony Hindmoor, Peter O’Hagan and Clive Lister secured the win at 3-1.
The final frame of the evening, however, produced the round’s best performance as United captain Andrew Mitchelhill not only galvanised the match win at 4-1 but did it in style with a season’s best break of 59.
Finally, Division One champions Workington Cons beat fellow townies Workington Veterans Club 3-2 in a match that could have gone either way.
Richard McCarthy won the first frame fairly easily for the Cons but with Kevin Basnett taking frame two for the Vets parity was achieved.
Former two-times county champion Alan Moore grafted hard to put Cons 2-1 up and even though the match looked to be heading to a decider Ryan Barker produced a short spell of potting that ultimately put Cons 3-1 ahead.
Still playing for a point Vets’ Paul Smith dug deep and with a master class in game management he took the final frame to give his team something positive to take away from a frustrating fixture.
