Police force’s Lotus spotted in Cumbria – 333 miles away from home

A police force’s sports car has been spotted in Penrith – 333 miles away from home.

Devon and Cornwall Police has been loaned a Lotus Evora GT410 Sport to be used at public events.

The Road Crimes Unit has had the 3.5-litre supercharged V6 sports car, which can reach speeds of 186mph, since July last year.

Prices for the car start at £88,675 and taxpayers in the local area were quick to criticise the ‘waste of money’ until it was revealed that it had been loaned to the force by Lotus for free.

Eagle eyed readers saw it parked outside Penrith’s North Lakes Hotel yesterday.

Devon and Cornwall Police said it was in the county as members of the road crimes unit were attending a road safety event.

It was possibly one of the last events it would be seen at as it will be returned to Lotus next week.

The force said it was not being used for operational policing, including patrols.
