Workington Town’s new coach Anthony Murray has quickly rekindled old friendships in his short time at Derwent Park.
It’s almost 20 years since Murray played for Town under coach Billy McGinty and two team-mates then are now members of the coaching team – Neil Frazer and Matty Johnson.
“It’s been good to team up with Neil and Matty again as they know the club really well. I’ve found it to be in a good place and certainly there’s a lot of vibes about the place.
“Training numbers have been good and the lads are working really hard so I’m really looking forward to seeing what they can do on the pitch.
“I’m based in Wigan but the travelling doesn’t really bother me. I coached Millom for three years and have played for both Town and Barrow,” he told Cumbria Crack.
Murray has his Town team training twice a week and on alternate Saturdays but will step up nearer the start of the League One season, particularly ahead of the opening friendlies.
Town have two pre-season friendlies organised so far – at Whitehaven on January 15 when the Ike Southward Memorial Trophy is up for grabs – Town are the holders – while a week later, January 22, Murray will take his side to Barrow.
