Taste Cumbria Christmas brought sparkle and glitz to Cockermouth this weekend as the county’s biggest food festival returned to the town for another year.
On Main Street there were nearly 60 traders with stalls packed with things to eat and drink, plus homewares and gifts. There was also an acoustic stage where local musicians played everything from carols to Christmas classics.
There was also plenty of family fun. Santa Claus was at the Kirkgate Arts centre, while Blossom Valley artisan craft shop offered children’s crafts. Then there was free face painting, street theatre, a fairground and elf workshops too.
The sell-out Taste Cumbria Supper Club served up a festive five-course feast at Cockermouth Cricket Club, with Takeaway@Home and with gifts generously donated by Cakes from the Lakes.
The event is organised by Allerdale Borough Council and event manager Ellie Windridge said: “What a fantastic festive weekend we have had in Cockermouth!
“The weather was fabulously Christmassy – we even got some snow – and it all added to the sparkle of Cockermouth’s beautiful town centre. Thank you to everyone who came – and to our brilliant traders who braved snow, ice and sub-zero temperatures to set up some excellent stalls.
“The pubs were bustling as they sold mulled wine and hot cider, the cafes were packed with people getting warm as they enjoyed lunch and snacks, and there were plenty of people shopping in the independent businesses. It was lovely to see.
“We can’t wait to do this all again in 2023 and will be announcing our dates for the festivals in Wigton, Maryport and Cockermouth very soon. Come and join us for some more brilliant foodie experiences!”
This year’s Taste Cumbria Christmas was supported by Allerdale Borough Council, Cockermouth Chamber of Trade, Cockermouth Town Council and The Coffee Kitchen Bakery.
