Workington Comets have named 31-year-old Luke Crang as their second signing ahead of their National Development League debut.
Although based in the North East, Darlington-born Crang initially made the breakthrough in National League racing with Coventry Storm in 2013.
He went on to spend three seasons with the Midlands outfit, increasing his scoring each season from a first season average of almost 5 to a final figure well over the 8-point mark by the close of 2015.
In addition he made a number of guest appearances for Northern based Championship teams while his most productive year at second tier level was in 2014 which saw him make 18 appearances for Redcar before a mid-season team reshuffle saw Mark Lemon introduced to the side at Luke’s expense.
The cousin of former Middlesbrough rider Mark Crang, he has actually already ridden for the Comets having made a single guest appearance in each of those three seasons 2013-15.
A former motocross rider, he made the decision to stop racing at the end of 2015 and was lost to the sport until making a successful comeback to the National League with Berwick Bullets midway through the 2021 season.

He also went on to link up with Edinburgh in the Championship later that year.
Retained by the Bullets for a second season 2022 saw him occupy a vital heat leader role as the Borders side went on to finish third in the league table before losing out to Mildenhall in the play-off semi final.
He scored an impressive 14 points in their home leg.
His experience will surely prove invaluable, to what will no doubt be a predominantly young National League side, as he comes to the tapes for the Comets in 2023 on a starting average of 7.23.
