It’s going to be a big year for Millom amateur rugby club as they celebrate their 150th anniversary.
Millom have been recognised as the oldest amateur club in the game, a history they are especially proud of in South Cumbria.
The club was founded in 1873 as a rugby union club, but decided to change codes in July 1897.
Millom participated in the Lancashire Senior Competition and the Northern Rugby League until the end of the 1905-06 season at which time the club decided to leave the professional game and revert to an amateur team playing in the Cumberland Senior Competition.
They are currently members of the National Conferencve Third Division and run a number of youth age group sides.
The committee are planning a number of events to celebrate the achievement of reaching 175 years including a boxing tournament, a tug of war competition and a Masters Rugby League day in which hopefully numerous former players will get involved.
