
A man collapsed and died while out walking on a Lake District fell.
Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was called out at around 12.15pm on Sunday to Dow Crag by police.
A mountain rescue team spokesman said: “The male walker who had collapsed close to the summit of Dow Crag and was in cardiac arrest.
“Various mountain rescue team members were in the vicinity, along with two local doctors, and CPR was commenced.
“We despatched two Land Rovers with snow chains up the Walna Scar track, walking up from the rock step where the Land Rovers have to stop.”
HM Coastguard’s rescue helicopter was also sent to the scene.
The team added: “Unfortunately, the gentleman did not recover, and R199 flew him down to Coniston for transfer to our base. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends at this sad time.”
Twelve members from Coniston Mountain Rescue Team were involved, two from Duddon and Furness, two from Bolton MRT, some other walkers and two doctors.
