Workington Town have added another local-based forward to their squad ahead of the 2023 League One season.

Grant Reid, 25, has been training with Anthony Murray’s team since the start of pre-season and has done particularly well.

So much so that he’s been offered a contract which he has signed and will be gearing-up for the pre-season friendlies in January.

Reid started his rugby career with Workington Zebras and more recently switched to league with Seaton Rangers.

He was previously better known in cricket circles where he was a free-scoring opening batsman for Workington.

Coach Murray said: “He’s a big, fit mobile young lads whose more than ready to step up to the pro ranks and I’m looking forward to seeing him progress.

“He had been recommended to us after a good season with Seaton where he won a Player of the Year award.

“He’s worked his socks off in training, lost a bit of surplus weight, deserved his first contract and if he keeps at it could be one to keep an eye on this season. I’m looking forward to seeing him in the pre-season games.”
