Dare you dip? Over 100 people sign up for Derwentwater challenge

Over 100 people have already signed up to Lake District Calvert Trust’s first New Year’s Day Dip.

Sponsored by Alpkit, the dip takes place at Derwentwater at 11am on January 1.

The dip is free to take part in but swimmers are invited to make a voluntary donation to help ensure that children with disabilities continue to benefit from the great outdoors thanks to the amazing work of the Lake District Calvert Trust.

Yvonne Booth, the trust’s fundraising officer, said: “The countdown to our New Year’s Day Dip continues and we are inviting everyone to take the plunge – or at least dip their toe in! Fancy dress is most definitely encouraged!  Everyone taking part will also be treated to hot chocolate and cake courtesy of local outdoor retailer Alpkit of Keswick.”

Lake District Calvert Trust instructors and staff will be on hand at Derwentwater to make sure that all ‘dippers’ are kept safe.  Safety is paramount and the event is very much a “dip” rather than a serious swim.  Wetsuits and suitable footwear are recommended and safety boats will also be on hand.

Yvonne added: “This event is all about bringing the community together, welcoming in 2023 and having great fun for charity.”

Places are strictly limited to 200 and can be reserved in advance – click here
