Workington Reds boss: ‘I’m expecting tough game at Clitheroe’

Matty Clarke (Ben Challis)

Workington Reds will have two recent absentees back in the squad for today’s NPL West trip to Clitheroe.

Matty Clarke was ill and missed the Boxing Day win over Kidsgrove Athletic while Sam Smith was serving a one match suspension which would have been completed weeks earlier but for postponements.

Ceiran Casson also missed that game after an injection for a troublesome ankle injury but he still needs time before being able to resume.

Manager Danny Grainger said: “It’s good to have Sam and Matty back with us because we are all going to have to be at it from the word go against a good Clitheroe side.

“We are on a decent run of form but it’s about consistency and sustaining standards. I’m expecting a tough game.”

Grainger also said it won’t be too long before November signing Obua Mugalula appears in the match day squad. He made his debut in a County Cup win over Windscale on November 23 and scored after only three minutes.

Mugalula has been training with the squad since then and starting to catch the eye, and is expected to see some first team action shortly.

Niall Moran, who has been on loan from Chorley for three months, will be saying his goodbyes ton his Workington team-mates after today’s game as he returns to his parent club.
