Josh Eaves, who pulled out of a move to Whitehaven last month, has found a new club.
The 25-year-old Eaves has signed for Swinton Lions for the coming Championship season following their promotion.
A teaching student at Edge Hill University in Ormskirk, Eaves was released from his Whitehaven contract when a change to the placement caused difficulties.
It forms a key part of his course and it would have interfered with his training availability at Whitehaven.
Eaves, who had spent time on loan at Haven, had also experienced some Super League experience at St Helens, Leigh and Wakefield.
Last season, however, the hooker was a virtual ever-present in the Championship at Newcastle, missing only one game.
Lions coach Allan Coleman said: “I was delighted when Josh became available because he commands a lot of respect on the field.
“His approach to how the game should be played will be an asset. He is a very talented hooker and has played in some quality environments.
“Competition at hooker is now very strong at Swinton and I’m very happy with the options I have in that position.”
