Over £30,000 has now been raised for the family of a rugby player who died suddenly aged just 18.
Logan Holgate, who played for Hensignham ARLFC and was part of the England Community Lions rugby squad which swept to victory in Italy, died last Wednesday.
Hundreds of tributes have been paid to the youngster – including a very emotional stoppage at the seventh minute of the West Cumbrian derby between Workington Town and Whitehaven for the Ike Southward Memorial Trophy. Logan wore the number 7 shirt for Hensingham.
Collection buckets at the Ike Southward game raised an additional £3,500.
Logan was also a talented footballer and played for Cleator Moor Celtic.
Workington Juniors Football Club’s teams also paid their respects to Logan over the weekend, by holding minute’s silences before matches.
The club said: “Thanks to all our age groups for showing their respects to Logan Holgate throughout the weekend. A significant loss to West Cumbria football and West Cumbrian sport as a whole.
“Huge well done to our U18s who have took it upon themselves to raise £150 to support Logan’s family. For a group of lads to take this initiative goes some way to show how respected and liked Logan was amongst his peers and the clubs he played against.”

Workington Reds Ladies had a minute’s applause before their match in memory of Logan and many clubs across the county also paid tribute to him – plus from further afield, including West Hull Rugby Club’s under-13s.
