Kendal Town’s defeat at hands of Avro

Kendal Town suffered a check in their advance towards the top eight of the NW Counties Premier Division last night.

They lost 3-0 at Parkside Road to Avro, who were completing a double over the Cumbrians after winning their home clash 1-0.

A win would have taken Kendal into the top 10 but the result had more significance to Avro as it put them top of the table.

Long time leaders Vauxhall Motors lost 2-1 at home to Northwich Victoria so Avro take over at the top.

On the night Avro looked the best organised side seen at Parkside Road this season and were good value for their win.

It had been a fairly even first-half with few chances for either side and the only goals came on 26 minutes when former Workington forward Louis Potts headed the visitors in front.

Kendal only fashioned one good opportunity in the second-half after great play by their man of the match Steve Yawson.

He fed top scorer Tom Kilifin only for the Avro keeper to make a brilliant block.

That came after the Mintcakes best spell of the game in which they had dominated possession but the Avro defence was outstanding.

Two goals in the last 12 minutes took the visitors clear and to the top of the table.

Having lost twice in the League, Kendal will have another opportunity against Avro when they host them in the quarter finals of the Macron Cup.
