Workington Ladies have appointed Alan Stewart to take on the role as Reds in the community liaison officer.
A former Reds midfielder from Cockermouth, Stewart was a youth player with Carlisle United before joining Reds in the NPL and playing through the mid-1980’s into the 1990’s.
He is already established in the Girls section of the Workington RITC and is currently coaching the Under-14’s team as well as remaining active in his role as coach for the Cockermouth Under-14’s Girls team.
The aim of this new role, is to strengthen the connections between Workington RITC and the Workington Reds Ladies FC with an overall aim of growing the Girls and Ladies game in our region.
It is aimed at generating a playing structure that is commensurate to the number of talented young girls that are playing football in our side of the county.

Reds Ladies Manager, Paul Mackenzie said: “This has the potential to become a very exciting new chapter in our journey and our development as a club.
“Alan offers a wealth of experience and I couldn’t think of a better person to have representing both sides of the table.
“Alan will be a major player in the success of this venture as he will be able to identify the right players for us in the coming years and also will be able to relay our aims and ambitions to the RITC in an attempt to improve the package from a 360 degree perspective.”
On his appointment, Stewart said: “This is an exciting opportunity for me as it will give me the opportunity to have a positive influence on something that means a lot to me.
“As it currently stands, the talented young girls from our area are faced with very demanding travelling commitments if they want to progress in the game.
“Stronger bonds between ourselves and the RITC will remove the need for families to be faced with this challenge. In the near future, we plan to develop a framework that would enable us to progress our aims to enter a development team into the County League”.
